Hybrid Cars and Mechanics

As hybrid cars become more common, mechanics are learning exactly what precautions they need to take to work on these vehicles.

Tony Sadler, the service and parts supervisor at Greenwood Ford, says a technician and a service advisor has to have a weeks training for the dealership to even be able to order a hybrid car.

The cars have a gas engine and an electric motor. Sadler says the electrical system carries 420 volts of electricity.

Mechanics also have to use lineman gloves, like utility workers use, when dealing with the electrical system.
