Western Kentucky University is now at the forefront in the war against cyber attacks.

Senator Mitch McConnell was in Bowling Green on Feb. 19, to officially open a cyber defense lab at WKU.

McConnell helped secure federal funding for the project.

A series of computers is designed to detect problems and take immediate action to protect the networks against attacks.

"It's individual espionage, it's government espionage, it's anywhere, a whole range, from teens to a government figuring out friends or enemies," explained Cyber Defense Lab Director, Phil Wamble.

The lab is a collaborative effort between WKU, Mississippi State University, the University of Arizona and EDAptive Computing.

It's located at WKU's Center for Research and Development, on Nashville road.
