High School Drop-Out Rate

New data reveals Kentucky’s high school dropout rate is increasing among minority groups.

The figures were released today from the state department of education.

State officials say there is a growing concern about the rise in minority students leaving school.

The dropout rates among ethnic groups break down like this:

4.56 percent for black students dropped out last year, up from 4.45 percent a year earlier

Among Hispanics, 4.77 percent of students dropped out last year, up from 4.65 percent the year before.

Two of the higher dropout rates in our viewing area include Clinton County and Adair County.

The "Non-Academic Data" report for the 2003-2004 school year is one part of Kentucky’s school accountability system.

Scores from two other parts, The Comprehensive Test of Basic Skills and The Kentucky Core Content Tests, are due out in September.
