Sgt. Ken Hill with Kentucky State Police says: "At the close of the investigation yesterday evening, Trooper Wilson lodged Mr. Huff on one charge of rape in the first degree."
Paul Huff Jr. was lodged at the Barren County Jail. Huff is a bus driver for the Metcalfe County School system...but Kentucky State Police say the rape charges are unrelated to the schools.
Sgt. Hill says: "At this time there are no indications of anything involving a child in the Metcalfe County school system or any children on the bus that Mr. Huff drove."
The Metcalfe County superintendent was out of town. But the school board released a statement saying they are currently investigating Paul Huff Jr. And that a decision regarding his employment status will be made when they investigation is complete according to school board policy.
The alleged rape happened 16 years ago but Kentucky State Police say the investigation provided enough information to arrest Huff before the evidence is presented before a grand jury.
Sgt. Hill says: "In this instance we felt like we had enough to move forward immediately. And taking into account the safety of other children that he was being in contact with in the Metcalfe County school system we made the decision to go ahead and charge him initially with one count."
Kentucky State Police say they believe more allegations of rape will soon surface and that there may be more counts added to Huff's charges.
