Governor Fletcher said in Frankfort this morning that the Attorney General's state government hiring probe marks the beginning of the 2007 governor's race.
Fletcher told reporters the probe is "all about politics" and is hurting the reputations of some of his top people.
The governor said he has not seen anything yet that points to something willfully done inappropriately.
Today's remarks were Fletcher's first in public since returning from a trade trip to Japan last night.
Fletcher says an internal review of his administration's hiring practices found "no irregularities" in how people were hired.
Attorney General Greg Stumbo's office began the investigation earlier this month.
The allegations so far would be considered misdemeanors, and no one has been charged.
