Forgotten Cemetery

Right outside the small town of Gradyville in Adair County lies a hidden cemetery that many have forgotten about.

Keith Holt of Plano, Texas traveled to Adair County, with his wife, in search of his great-great grandfather's grave.

However, when he got into town, it was difficult to find it. Holt says, "No one seemed to know much about it."

After several inquiries at the D and F Supermarket, Holt found the cemetery, which was hidden due to the grass and trees that had grown around it. Holt says, "It was all grown-up, a lot of trees, shrubs, things like that, it was barely visible."

Holt and his wife searched the cemetery and finally found his loved one's grave. He says, "I was just ecstatic to finally find it and take pictures."

Besides joy, Holt felt disappointed in the condition of the forgotten cemetery. He says, "It was kind of disheartening because you assume the cemetery is going to be maintained. However, the first person buried there was buried 150 years ago in 1855, so I guess over time families move, away or become a little out of touch with their ancestors."

Holt hopes that the families of those buried there can come together and revitalize their ancestors’ graves, showing while their gone, they're not forgotten.
