"Since I was twelve years old the only thing I ever wanted to do was be a police officer."

Brad Fulks has been a police officer for the last five years. But Wednesday the city commission voted unanimously to terminate him from the Bowling Green Police Department.

Fulks says: "It was an entire attack on my character. In my opinion this was nothing more than a real personal issue between myself and some of the administration."

The Bowling Green Police Department Chief, Bill Waltrip, says they do not feel it is appropriate to comment on this story at this time.

Fulks’ attorney, Alan Simpson, says they are disappointed with the department’s stance on providing them with information.

Simpson says: "I guess the one thing that probably bothered us about the hearing itself, was we felt like the police department withheld some information from us."

Simpson says it would have allowed them to better prepare for the hearing. He claims the police department brought things up at the hearing that were not contained in the charges. Simpson and Fulks also say they asked for personnel files on some witnesses and they say they were not provided with those. Finally, they say they asked for disciplinary files from the past against other officers and they say they only received a couple of those files.

Fulks says: "There's been a lot more serious getting swept under the carpet so to speak. But I feel this was, I feel just a personal attack on me, it was all an attack on my character."

Fulks maintains he had an unblemished record as a police officer. And his lawyer claims this hearing and his termination were the result of disagreements between Fulks and the chief.

Simpson says: "Brad speaks his mind and that's not something necessarily that the chain of command likes. And when he questions things I think that causes a backlash where they're going to show him who is boss."

Brad Fulks says he's not sure at this time whether they will appeal the decision to fire him.
