Christ's Apostles Food Pantry

Pamela Dukes is a member of one of the 220 families that goes to the Christ's Apostles Food Pantry every other week.

Dukes says: "I can't get food stamps and I have six grandkids, and I keep them a lot during the summer and all I draw is disability."

Duke says her disability check is only $599 a month, and her rent is $500, which means there's very little leftover for food and necessities.

Helping those in need, like Pamela, is why members of the First Presbyterian Church, in Greenville, began the food pantry.

Jim Allen, the man who runs the pantry, says: "We have so many needy people in the county, we're doing what we can to help."

While the food is donated from America's Second Harvest, Bread of Life, and various businesses, the pantry still isn't cheap to run. Allen says it costs around $800 a month for transportation, warehouse costs, and other fees.

However, he says helping the community is worth every penny.
