Governor Steve Beshear's proposed pension plan that passed through the House last week, is now making its way through the General Assembly.

The plan calls for future employees to work 30 years before retiring, and for retirees to receive annual cost of living increases of 1.5-percent.

Bowling Green Mayor Elaine Walker believes this plan is a good one.

"I think when you look at the problems that the current situation has caused for local governments and for state governments, I think everyone hopefully will understand that we're going to have to give a little bit," said Mayor Walker.

"I think everyone's going to have to give a little bit."

The plan is expected to help eliminate a nearly $27-billion unfunded liability.

The pension plan passed the House completely, and is now making its way through the Senate.
