Sports Tourism Could Mean More Revenue for Bowling Green

Bowling Green has long been known by tourists for attractions like the Corvette Museum and Beech Bend Park.

Major sporting events could become the next big draw to boost local tourism revenues.

The Bowling Green Convention and Visitors Bureau says high-profile events like the KHSAA Girls Sweet Sixteen bring prestige.

But smaller tournaments like a BB gun competition currently underway can bring in thousands of fans and millions of dollars.

Tourism officials believe the city's biggest selling point is its smaller-town feel.

"I have not had one problem in anything I've gone after. I think that probably the key to Bowling Green Kentucky is that the people feel like when they bring their event here versus a big big city, they feel like they're a big fish in a pond here," said Steve Small, Sports Marketing Director for the Visitors Bureau.
