The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for this afternoon and early evening for a large part of central Kentucky and southern Indiana. The advisory includes Bardstown, Bowling Elizabethtown, Glasgow, Leitchfield, Louisville, Russellville, Shelbyville and Taylorsville. Afternoon temperatures in the mid 90s combined with dew points in the lower 70s will produce heat indices around 105 by mid afternoon. Authorities say children, the elderly and people with chronic ailments are usually the first to suffer from the heat and should be in air conditioning.
