Currently, the Bowling Green Police Department has ten officer openings after six officers went into retirement and the other four made career changes.
Filling the shoes of police officer is no easy chore though. Potential officers must complete a written test, several fitness tests, an oral interview, a background check and a polygraph test.
Jerry Corbitt has been an officer for 17 years and says while the hours may not be the greatest, it’s well worth your time.
Applicants must meet some minimum requirements like:
You must be at least 21 years old
Have 60 college hours or
4 years of military service or
2 years as a certified officer
Corbitt says while being an officer is a different kind of profession, it’s one that comes with a lot of gratitude.
Once the officers are hired they begin training at the police academy in Richmond.
