Vice President Dick Cheney will be in Kentucky next week to campaign for Republican congressional candidate Brett Guthrie

The vice president's office says Cheney will attend a private reception Monday for Guthrie at a Lexington residence.

Guthrie is running for the 2nd District seat held by fellow Republican Ron Lewis, who is retiring.

The 2nd District takes in parts of central and western Kentucky but does not include Lexington.

Guthrie is a state senator from Bowling Green.

In the general election, he'll take on the winner of the Democratic primary between state Sen. David Boswell and Daviess County Judge-Executive Reid Haire.
