Bus Driver Training

According to the Warren County Transportation Department, the district has around 8,000 kids on a bus each day and the buses travel around 12,000 miles a day.

To help refresh all of the drivers, the state requires they get eight hours of training every year.

In Warren County's program the drivers have four hours of classroom training and four hours to practice different driving skills.

A substitute driver, Tony Johnson, says, "You come away from it feeling like you're a little more knowledgeable about your job and the safety that's involved."

John Odom, the Director of Transportation, says he's a firm believer in training so his drivers will be prepared for any situation.

Odom says, "They drive with a seasoned driver, a tenured driver, just to get used to kids on the bus."

Odom also wants to remind parents if your child is going to the same school or a new school in the same area the bus will run at the same time.

If you have any questions Odom says you can call your child's school or the transportation department at (270) 842-8311.
