Lawmakers are trying to figure out how hurricane survivors ended up in toxic FEMA trailers.
A House subcommittee is questioning the Federal Emergency Management Agency and a sub-agency for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on April 1.
Members want to know why it took several months for the CDC to correct a report that suggested residents could open windows and vents to reduce formaldehyde levels in the trailers.
Those living in the trailers want to know too.
"We saw a decrease of symptoms we went back and forth with the CDC trying to find out if our trailer was safe, we were told there is no safe level of formaldehyde 24 hours a day," stated Lindsay Huckabee, who lives in a FEMA trailer.
The CDC has determined that formaldehyde levels in some trailers are too high and could cause illness.
It's called for alternative housing for affected residents.
