Georgia police say a group of children brought knives, duct tape, even handcuffs to school, as part of a plan to get revenge on their teacher.

And these kids are just eight to ten-years-old.

It was an unbelievable plot.

The plan devised by a group of third-graders was exposed after another student spoke up.

The students had a plan to possibly harm their teacher.

Police were called to an unlikely crime scene at Waycross Elementary school in south Georgia.

They discovered that as many as nine boys and girls had planned to attack their third-grade teacher.

The day before, the teacher had scolded one of the girls for standing on a chair.

"I think the teacher had a timeout table in the back, and she was asked to go to the timeout table and that was as simple as it was," said Waycross Police Chief Tony Tanner.

Just about everyone in this small town was shocked by what they found on the young students.

Police seized a broken steak knife, a chunk of glass, red gloves, toy handcuffs, duct tape and a number of other items they may have planned to use in the attack.

Police say the third-graders assigned themselves different tasks including covering-up the windows and cleaning up afterwords.

"Some might say they were young and in the third grade and how serious could it be, but we obviously have to take that very seriously," stated Theresa Martin, of the Ware County School Board.

The teacher was veteran educator, and teaches students with learning disabilities.

"Even if at that size, if they had used the knife it could have been fatal," said Chief Tanner.

Two girls, ten and nine-years-old, along with an eight-year-old boy, face multiple juvenile charges of conspiracy, possession, aggravated assault, all in the third grade.

Chief Tanner says the students apparently planned to knock the teacher unconscious with a crystal paperweight, bind her with the handcuffs and tape, and then stab her with the knife.

Children are cruel, and when you're in a special class, you become a special kid, and the reputation that you've struggled to build would be shattered by that label. And to be honest, it's rather ageist of you to think that just because they are third graders they couldn't come up with a plot like this. Children are intelligent. More intelligent than we EVER give them credit for

I am afraid to say it but it is going to get worse. We have chosen to do some many things politically correct and not morally correct. Like prayer in school and corporal punishment in schools. when I went to school the thought of getting a paddling kept me in line. We need to bring back these things in our schools or make private schools that do have thes things more affordable. i don't think it is the video games or TV. I was taught to hunt and use guns and I haven't killed anybody so I don't buy that. It starts at home but the government has tied parents hands. I have a friend that spanked his son. The son called 911 on him. He was arrested and charged with assault. For spanking his own out of control preteen. Wake up america. We need more morals taught at home. And let the parents raise their kids Know the difference between punishment and abuse. How 'bout some common sense for a change. GHeez!!

No, this needs a little bit of discussion. If you watch the MSNBC video of their report on this, he says that these children are in special classes; but the only 'disability' that he mentions is ADHD. Since when has that been such an overwhelming problem that they have to be isolated from other children and put into a 'special' class? There really isn't enough information here but if that really was the only reason that they were in a special class, to be honest, I would be infuriated and want to hurt my third grade teacher as well. Children are cruel, and when you're in a special class, you become a special kid, and the reputation that you've struggled to build would be shattered by that label. And to be honest, it's rather ageist of you to think that just because they are third graders they couldn't come up with a plot like this. Children are intelligent. More intelligent than we EVER give them credit for.

This is a blow to my soul..Children are playing the roles of adults. Everyone points the finger and blames the individuals in tragedies such as this. When is it time to start looking at the social causes and not the product of society itself? We live in a society that displays violence everywhere and in my opinion the dominant news media helps to perpetuate the cycle. Acts like these are glamorized and shown on the front page and in return copycatted. Can't you see the pattern? I challenge you to look deeper into this event and ask "why would third graders do something like this?" Do they live in single parent homes? Are these kids left unattended while the parents work two and three jobs just to pay the bills? Do they have support systems? Do they attend underfunded social institutions? Do they have positive activities to engage them? Let's stop condemning individuals and take a look at the social responsibility that we all play a role in! What effects one, effects "ALL"

First of all I need to say that there is no excuse for this kind of behavior. However, it is so easy to blame video games, TV, and bad parenting. These may all play a part but we also need to look at the school systems. There is no time for recess, lunch periods decrease every year. Kids are not allowed to be kids anymore. Teachers, unfortunately, are the ones who have to deal with the complaints and negative behaviors from the parents and the children.

Notice that one of the girls was 10, and another 9. They would normally have been in fourth or fifth grade, and well able to come up with an elaborate plan. However, they were special ed - the basis for that is not stated, but it could be for either emotional or learning disabilities or both. If emotional, it's quite possible that they had the mental capacity to plan this without the mental ability to understand the ramifications in the real world. While I agree with much of what is being said about the problems caused by lack of discipline in the home and by schools (largely due to fear of lawsuits), we should not think this is indicative of similar problems among typical third graders.

I am a teacher and I have to wonder what these students are doing in their spare time! But I am not at all shocked by this kind of behavior. I parents only knew how their little angels are behaving in school... Take a look around world at what we are teaching our children. They live what they learn

God help us all....if this is how our children are thinking..i could only imagine what the future holds...

Just an Fyi, Violent video games have been proven to be more therapeutic then to cause violence. i am a Psychology major myself and i did a 95 page reasearch paper on that topic, so i think it may have to do with other factors. there are still alot of things unknown. first off, this took place in a small rural town in georgia. what if it could have posible been a black teacher in a majority white school? there are alot of question that still need to be asked before you can blame it on somthing else, espically one that multiple scientific studys have been done to proove innocent

They must have learned it from violent movies and video games. This is a wake up call, if we don't do something with it, it will get worse, more violent at yonger age.

this is crazy!!! immagine whats going to happen next, the high school?!? for 8 years old that was a too good of a plan. i think something has to be done with the parents, the kids dont just plan that out of nowhere, that took thought. i think this is a major hint to the parents that maybe that rated R movie isnt the best idea.

Posted by: Anonymous on Apr 3, 2008 at 04:03 PM
I'd almost bet those kids didn't really understand the seriousness of what they were doing. I DO find it kind of scary they had this thing planned out in such detail.

Posted by: CONCERNED on Apr 3, 2008 at 03:28 PM
I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT TO THINK OF THIS!! I MYSELF HAVE A 3RD GRADER, AND I WOULD NEVER THINK IN A MILLION YEARS OR,BELIEVE THAT SHE WOULD EVER DO OR THINK SUCH A THING!! I THINK IT COMES DOWN TO THE PARENTS! THEY MUST NOT HAVE PARENTS THAT ARE INVOLVED IN THEIR EVERYDAY LIFE. I CARE WHAT MY CHILD DOES,THINKS,CARES, AND WHAT SHE IS AROUND. TALKING OUT YOUR PROBLEMS IS WHAT NEEDS TAUGHT TO THESE KIDS. HEY LETS ALSO FACE IT, THE VIDEO GAMES THESE DAYS ARE OUT OF CONTROLL!!!

My heart is sickened by this tragic story. As a teacher it makes me wonder about my safety. I do, however, realize the process we've gone through to get to this point of despair. We intentionally took prayer out of the schools, and therefore we've taken morals out of the schools as well. Let's allow our children to know that it's okay to be kind, loving, and caring. God bless our schools, but most importantly God bless our children! To my fellow teachers, let's not give up the fight. Let's hang in there for the few that want, and value us

This is so outrageous! I mean come on...3rd graders. Its probably because of all the movies, video games and violence out in the world. This story almost brought me to tears.

These children are evil, what on earth is happening? Do they have decent parents at home, a loving mother that is there for them or are they left to their own devices while their parents work?

Posted by: Beth Location: Bowling Green on Apr 2, 2008 at 04:13 PM
What in the world? Third graders? This is unbelievable. They need a good whipping, what were they thinking?

Posted by: Anonymous on Apr 2, 2008 at 03:32 PM
