Children are cruel, and when you're in a special class, you become a special kid, and the reputation that you've struggled to build would be shattered by that label. And to be honest, it's rather ageist of you to think that just because they are third graders they couldn't come up with a plot like this. Children are intelligent. More intelligent than we EVER give them credit for

I am afraid to say it but it is going to get worse. We have chosen to do some many things politically correct and not morally correct. Like prayer in school and corporal punishment in schools. when I went to school the thought of getting a paddling kept me in line. We need to bring back these things in our schools or make private schools that do have thes things more affordable. i don't think it is the video games or TV. I was taught to hunt and use guns and I haven't killed anybody so I don't buy that. It starts at home but the government has tied parents hands. I have a friend that spanked his son. The son called 911 on him. He was arrested and charged with assault. For spanking his own out of control preteen. Wake up america. We need more morals taught at home. And let the parents raise their kids Know the difference between punishment and abuse. How 'bout some common sense for a change. GHeez!!

No, this needs a little bit of discussion. If you watch the MSNBC video of their report on this, he says that these children are in special classes; but the only 'disability' that he mentions is ADHD. Since when has that been such an overwhelming problem that they have to be isolated from other children and put into a 'special' class? There really isn't enough information here but if that really was the only reason that they were in a special class, to be honest, I would be infuriated and want to hurt my third grade teacher as well. Children are cruel, and when you're in a special class, you become a special kid, and the reputation that you've struggled to build would be shattered by that label. And to be honest, it's rather ageist of you to think that just because they are third graders they couldn't come up with a plot like this. Children are intelligent. This is a blow to my soul..Children are playing the roles of adults. Everyone points the finger and blames the individuals in tragedies such as this. When is it time to start looking at the social causes and not the product of society itself? We live in a society that displays violence everywhere and in my opinion the dominant news media helps to perpetuate the cycle. Acts like these are glamorized and shown on the front page and in return copycatted. Can't you see the pattern? I challenge you to look deeper into this event and ask "why would third graders do something like this?" Do they live in single parent homes? Are these kids left unattended while the parents work two and three jobs just to pay the bills? Do they have support systems? Do they attend underfunded social institutions? Do they have positive activities to engage them? Let's stop condemning individuals and take a look at the social responsibility that we all play a role in! What effects one, effects "ALL"

First of all I need to say that there is no excuse for this kind of behavior. However, it is so easy to blame video games, TV, and bad parenting. These may all play a part but we also need to look at the school systems. There is no time for recess, lunch periods decrease every year. Kids are not allowed to be kids anymore. Teachers, unfortunately, are the ones who have to deal with the complaints and negative behaviors from the parents and the children.

Notice that one of the girls was 10, and another 9. They would normally have been in fourth or fifth grade, and well able to come up with an elaborate plan. However, they were special ed - the basis for that is not stated, but it could be for either emotional or learning disabilities or both. If emotional, it's quite possible that they had the mental capacity to plan this without the mental ability to understand the ramifications in the real world. While I agree with much of what is being said about the problems caused by lack of discipline in the home and by schools (largely due to fear of lawsuits), we should not think this is indicative of similar problems among typical third graders.

I am a teacher and I have to wonder what these students are doing in their spare time! But I am not at all shocked by this kind of behavior. I parents only knew how their little angels are behaving in school... Take a look around world at what we are teaching our children. They live what they learn

God help us all....if this is how our children are thinking..i could only imagine what the future holds...
