At first glance, Barren River looks like a nice place to go for a swim, especially on a hot summer day, but Warren County Officials say a stretch of the river at Weldon Peete Park is anything but nice.
Duncan Hines works for the Warren County Parks and Recreation Department and says the undertow is extremely strong and he doesn’t recommend for anyone to swim there.
On Saturday, a Bowling Green teenager drowned in the Barren River after witnesses say the current pulled him under.
Then just a few weeks ago, 52-year-old Richard Stout died after falling off an embankment and into the water.
Now, county officials say they’ll post signs warning visitors of the dangers.
Stout’s family says the posting of the signs gives them hope that others won’t have to go through the same experiences they’ve had to go through this past month.
