Culver's Restaurant has been feeding the Bowling Green and Alvaton communities for almost 3 years now.
In that time, the eatery's owner Don Durflinger, has been adamant about giving back more than just "good food" to our area.
Although he's the owner of Culver's, Durflinger is constantly on the go.
"I take orders on the drive-thru. I run the kitchen. I delivered to the Bob Kirby Library branch behind us," says Durflinger.
Yet, when Durflinger and his crew aren't serving food, they are putting their money where their mouths are.
"We do a lot of fund-raisers for local charity events, for schools, and for local churches," explains Durflinger.
One place that has felt the benefits of Culver's generosity is Alvaton Elementary School.
"Anytime we have a 'Mommy and Me Tea' or 'Dessert With Dad', he's always wanting to give or participate," says PTO president, Heather Fletcher.
She says the biggest gift the school received has been a playground.
The eatery held monthly "Alvaton Elementary Night" promotions, with 10% of its profits going back to the school.
"We have gotten a playground and its great," exclaims Fletcher.
Now the Cookeville, Illinois native is a "favorite" of the students.
"I'm sure there's been multiple times the kids have come in here and they know him by name. Its not just 'there's the manager of Culver's... thats Don", notes Fletcher.
"The satisfaction you get from being able to give back to the community is just fabulous," says Durflinger.
"I think he has just a 'heart of gold'. I think he just wants to help the schools and the non-profits," says Fletcher.
Durflinger says its just part of who he is, and the way he wants his business run.
"I was raised to give to people what you expect in return and I try to give as much as I possibly can.
Durflinger says through the restaurant's philanthropic endeavors, he's met a lot of great people and organizations.
He says he hopes to keep working with non-profits in our area.
