Early Jail Release

Fourteen out of the nineteen Warren County inmates are released early from jail Friday.

Gov. Paul Patton made the announcement that more than 500 inmates across Kentucky would be released early from jail to compensate for the states budget crisis.

The governor says the release will save Kentucky an estimated $1.3 million.

But not everyone feels this is a good plan.

Warren County Jailer Jackie Strode says his jail will lose $38,000 from now until the last inmate was due to be released. It will also impact agencies who use the inmates as a labor supplement, and it will impact the taxpayers if the inmates become repeat offenders.

Strode says he and other jailers support the state canceling contracts with private prisons.
