Governor Fletcher suggests assistance for Farmers

Governor Fletcher is stepping in to help farmers in the midst of a nearly statewide drought.

Fletcher sent a request to U.S. Secretary of Agriculture to suggest that USDA Disaster Assistance be made available to the farmers across the state, after the lack of rainfall.

The assistance is being requested due to crop losses resulting from the drought conditions that began in February.

Rainfall in Kentucky has been less than normal five of the last seven months, and Kentucky's soy bean crop is estimated to suffer a 50 percent or greater loss.
