The Base Closure and Realignment Commission will be voting in Washington, D.C. to decide on whether to close, downsize, or increase 62 major military installations, and hundreds of smaller ones.
Realignment for Fort Campbell and Fort Knox has been approved by the commission, as had been predicted.
The commission also unanimously approved the realignment and closure of several reserve components in Kentucky and Tennessee.
Under the plan, Fort Knox would lose its tank training school, but is slated to gain an active component and personnel management staffs that will increase its population.
The Commission is scheduled to vote later in the week on the status of Fort Knox's Ireland Army Community hospital, which is expected to lose its in-patient care facilities.
