A ruptured pipe is to blame for damaging more than a dozen rooms in one of WKU's newly renovated residence halls.

Several students living in North-East Hall returned from vacation to find computers, textbooks and other personal items damaged by the leak. A mechanical room in the building's basement was flooded with several feet of water knocking out Internet services to about 600 rooms.

WKU Housing and Residence Life officials said even during scheduled breaks each hall is inspected once a day. However if passersby had not noticed the leak, damage to the building could have been far worse. Contractors insurance is expected to pay for damages.

The Student Life Foundation just finished renovating four of the university's aging dorms at a cost of $13.5 million.
