The saying goes when life hands you lemons, you make lemonade and that’s exactly what six-year-old Lauren Barrett did.
"I asked my mom if I can put a lemonade stand and asked if I could send the money to the hurricane victims and she said it was your money you could do whatever you wanted."
That’s exactly what Lauren did with all proceeds going to benefit those hit by Hurricane Katrina.
“I just thought if I put up a lemonade stand I thought I could raise a lot of money to give them anything they wanted."
Lauren’s goal was a $100 but she exceeded that and raised $104.50. She donated that money to the Barren County American Red Cross Tuesday morning.
So far, the Barren County American Red Cross has raised more than $42,000 for Hurricane Katrina victims. Officials say most donations have come from residents just like Lauren.
