A Michigan man pleaded "no contest" and was found guilty of charges in a wrong-way crash that killed a mother and four children in Toledo, Ohio.

Michael Gagnon appeared in court May 9 and took responsibility for his actions in the incident.

Gagnon was driving drunk and in the wrong direction on a Toledo interstate Dec. 30.

His pickup hit a minivan filled with eight people coming home from a Christmas trip.

The victims were from Maryland.

Police said Gagnon's blood alcohol level was more than double the limit.

"Mr. Gagnon has been remorseful since.. I almost want to say the first day I saw him, which was New Year's Day. Although I think at that time he was still adjusting to the fact that it was not a nightmare and it truly existed. But yes, he has been remorseful the entire time," said Rick Sanders, Gagnon's attorney.

Gagnon was found guilty on five counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and two counts of aggravated vehicular assault.

He could face up to 50 years in prison.

You don't find too many drunk drivers that own up to their actions. I think he deserves his punishment but at least he didn't try to get out of it. If you think you need to roam around after drinking, please call a cab or a sober friend to drive you. No one's life is worth a few beers.
