John McCain was on the campaign trail on May 12 in a state that often votes for Democrats - Oregon.

The Republican Presidential candidate is trying to reach out to independents and green-minded social conservatives about global warming.

While speaking at a wind turbine manufacturer in Portland, McCain said the U.S. needs to get global warming under control.

"We stand warned by serious and credible scientist across the world, the time is short and the dangers are great," McCain said.

"The most relevant question now is whether our own government is equal to the challenge."

McCain says expanded nuclear power must be considered to reduce carbon-fuel emissions.
