The Defense Department has announced the death of a Fort Campbell soldier who was serving in Iraq.

Military officials said on May 13 that Cpl. Jessica A. Ellis of Bend, Ore., died May 11 when a roadside bomb detonated beside her vehicle in Baghdad. Ellis was 24.

She was assigned to the 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division.

Fort Campbell is a sprawling Army post on the Kentucky-Tennessee line.
