The Kentucky National Guard's 617th Military Police Company has returned home to a hero's welcome.
About 180 soldiers arrived in Louisville after spending about a year in Iraq.
The unit suffered two deaths and numerous injuries during their service in the war-torn country.
Governor Ernie Fletcher welcomed the troops home at a service in Louisville.
One distinguished member of the unit, Sergeant Leigh Ann Hester, received the Silver Star the nation's third-highest medal for valor.
The 23-year-old was the first female soldier to receive the award since World War Two.
Hester says being home is wonderful and overwhelming.
She says she's going to go home to Bowling Green and lay low.
