Winterizing Your Vehicle

With the winter season approaching, auto experts say there are several tips you should keep in mind when it comes to winterizing your car.

"Make sure you have good antifreeze, a right amount of level. You
wanna have a good battery and enough gas in your car. You definitely want to check your tires to make sure you get enough tread for the winter season", says Sears Auto Center Manager, Shannon Bryan.

One way to check to make sure your tires have enough tread is through a penny tire tread test, in which you place a penny into one of the grooves in your tire.

"If you take a penny and put it in a tire and you can see the head on the penny, then you need new tires", Bryan says.

Tires aren't the only part of your car to check on during the winter season however. You should also have your ignition and brakes checked during the cold season, along with making sure your windshield wipers work.

"It's very important, especially if you're out there by yourself, to
make sure you have a car in good running order: tires, batteries,
extra gas cans, things of that nature", Bryan says.

With a month left until the winter season begins, preparing your car now for the cold weather is exactly what car experts are reminding you to do.

"If you want your car to last, it's a good idea just as regular
maintenance to keep it winterized. Keep it ready for winter", says Bryan.
