Cave City residents met tonight at their city hall with county and state officials present to hash out their differences and ask questions of the owners and at times the meeting was very heated.

State Representative Steve Nunn says: "One of the problems with all these types of homes is that they are not required to give public notice."

Nunn was one of the many people present during the public hearing about a proposed emergency shelter for children in Cave City.

Owner, Kari Hutchison says: "We've gone out on a limb here to help children and that's what I intend to do. And that's what I hope I can do."

The owners say the facility will take in children who have been abused or neglected. One of the draws is that they will take in sibling groups that are harder to place with foster families.

Judge Executive, Davie Greer, says: "She said it was desperately needed. It's a facility if they go in a home that has a meth lab or abused children in anyway and there's four children there, they can take these four children and put them in the shelter."

The most heated discussions took place between residents who say the builder of the home lied to them about what its intended purpose would be.

Robert Smith is the builder. He says: "I'm a builder I'm not public relations. It's not my place to be telling you what I'm doing."

The neighbors say they feel like the public hearing went well in the end.
But they believe the meeting could have been avoided if they had been told the truth from the beginning.

Junior Jent is one of those neighbors. He says: "I think the meeting went very, very well. I think we had a lot of lack of communication. And I feel very comfortable with what the Hutchison's had to say. And I hope we can all wind up being good neighbors get this all worked out for the best."
