The commission voted on the second reading of the city employee pay plan ordinance.
Commissioner Delane Simpson spoke to the fact that if the commission declined to vote in favor of an ordinance and instead look into creating a new pay plan, citizens would ultimately pay.
"If we back up again and go from scratch, then that means the people will be farther and farther behind in catching up with counterparts in other cities and jobs around the state."
The commission defeated the ordinance 3 to 2.
Members also voted to table the municipal order regarding receiving updates from the Inter-Modal Transportation Authority until the commission had all the necessary information.
Tonight's meeting was also the first for new City Manager Kevin Defebbo.
