The health care system in Kentucky jails and prisons will get a high-tech makeover this spring.

According to Lieutenant Governor Steve Pence, all 13 prisons and 75 jails will use a program that allows doctors to review a patient's health information through a computer tablet.

Using the tablet, the doctor can then decide whether a patient needs individual care.

The program is expected to save the state millions of dollars a year.

It's the second phase of a cost-saving partnership launched in October 2003 among the state's Department of Corrections, The University of Kentucky, and CorrectCare, a Lexington-based health management firm.
