Governor Fletcher was joined by Senator Alice Forgy Kerr and other members of the state legislature today to sign House Bill 283 into law.
The bill will provide an additional $10 million in state funding for the low income energy assistance program.

Community Action of Southern Kentucky says it has already served 1500 families this year, a 7% increase over last winter.

"It's been amazing this winter. We've seen families come in here with large bills and no idea how they're going to pay for them or how they're going to provide heat for their children."

Flo Simelton is among them. Her last heating bill was almost $250. She says it's more than she can afford.

"Community Action is such a blessing. I didn't know what I was going to do. It's nice to know someone cares."

Families who qualify can sign-up for assistance at Parker-Bennett Curry Elementary school, or you can call (270) 746-2240 for additional information.
