A proposal to raise Kentucky's speed limit to 70 miles per hour is closer to becoming law.
The measure proposed by Governor Ernie Fletcher passed through a Senate committee without opposition and now heads to the full Senate for consideration.
If the measure makes it through the General Assembly and is signed into law, Kentucky would be among 30 other states with maximum speeds of at least 70 miles per hour.
The measure would affect only rural, four-lane interstate highways and parkways, and has widespread support among legislators.
