Governor Steve Beshear was in Bowling Green on June 30 to talk with city employees about the state's pension system.
Beshear signed the legislation on June 27 after Senators approved the state's new pension plan.
The plan was approved in the House on June 25.
Beshear says it will help protect employees during these difficult economic times.
"Around $400,000 for the city, $200,000 for the county that they can take immediately this next budget year and use for some essential services, for some essential employees that otherwise they would have to be cutting in these hard economic times," explained Gov. Beshear.
"So, it is an immediate relief to cities, counties and school districts all across the state."
Governor Beshear also discussed the state's energy situation, future revenue plans and higher education costs.
