COWS or Community Outdoor Warning System and CALVES the Community Activated Lifesaving Voice Emergency System sounded at schools like Moss Middle.
Even though the likelihood of a major earthquake happening along the New Madrid Faultline may be a minimum, Principal Renick says you can never be too safe. He compares an earthquake drill to the devastating Tsunami. "When you start mentioning death in multiple numbers, it does get their attention." He explains how they educate their students about the possibility: "If the situation does arise we give them activities like understand things are going to be falling from above, sit underneath something, they remember that and apply it anywhere they are at."
He says a new Warren County teaching tool is the "Active Board."
41 will be installed in Moss Middle School and every Warren County School will be equipped with them by the Fall of 2006. He says with tools such as these, zoning in on the disaster area the Tsunami left behind with the Active Board, makes this earthquake drill for Warren County, especially real.
