The 37th District Senate seat is vacant no more.
Democrat Perry Clark will step in to fill the seat in the General Assembly after beating Republican Debbie Peden in a special election.
The south Louisville district had been without a senator since the November, 2004 elections because of a long-running dispute settled by the state Supreme Court.
Its ruling resulted in a clean slate featuring two new candidates chosen by their local party leaders.
Clark resigned his House seat to run for the Senate.
In a special election to choose his successor, Democrat Ron Weston defeated Republican Carolee Allen.
