The fraternity under investigation for cruelty to animals and hazing now faces suspension from their national office. Friday, Alpha Gamma Rho national office released this statement about the incident.

Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity is outraged at the display of animal cruelty and disrespect for fellow members that were shown at the Alpha Chi Chapter at Western Kentucky University. After being notified by the university administration of the incident that took place at the Alpha Chi Chapter house, the National Fraternity was shocked and repulsed.

The chapter has been suspended. Alpha Gamma Rho will conduct a full investigation of the incident and work with university and community officials to find the facts and determine further necessary actions and/or discipline.

Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity is a social and professional fraternity. Pledging is prohibited in AGR, and we have a policy outlawing hazing. AGR also has strong Risk Management policies in place.

Alpha Gamma Rho is all about integrity and decency. An important part of our values is holding high the significance of human dignity. That extends to respecting the dignity of animals as well.

Western's Code of Conduct forbids hazing of any kind. Western Kentucky University officials are also looking into whether hazing played a role in the incident.

Bob Skipper is with WKU Media Relations. He says: "Any hazing allegations are investigated by our office of student activities organizations. And if they are substantiated there are a variety of actions we can take against the fraternity depending on what took place."

Members of the fraternity say the goat was brought in to scare the pledges. They say they told the pledges they would have to have sex with the goat. Whether anyone did or not is still under investigation.

Lorri Hare is the director of the Humane Society. She say: "It's very, very strange. I know when I came in, I was in shock and I deal with strange things every single day."

The Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society sees cases of animal abuse and neglect regularly. But Director Lorri Hare says the incident involving this goat is unacceptable.

Hare says: "He was very very timid yesterday morning. Didn't really want to be touched."

The President of Alpha Gamma Rho says the fraternity brought the goat to the fraternity house to scare the pledges by telling them they would have to have sex with the goat. The veterinarian who examined the goat did find bruising inside the animal.

Hare says: "It definitely was regardless if anything did happen or did not happen the condition the goat was in when police found the goat was not acceptable for the goat or any type of animal."

The goat is going to be put in foster care because the humane society has received a number of calls claiming to be its rightful owner. They want to make sure he didn't turn up missing because of all the attention the story has received. The fraternity claims it was done as a joke, but the Humane Society says no animal should ever be treated the way this goat was.

Hare says: "Even done as a prank. It's a bad prank in our eyes."

The Bowling Green Police also found minors at the Alpha Gamma Rho house who were intoxicated. But they did not physically see anyone drinking. They tell WBKO if the president of the fraternity had been there they would have charged him with unlawful transaction with a minor. Since he was not, they brought in the WKU Student Activity Director to handle the offense.
