Legislation was introduced into the house today that would give the Office of Mine Safety and Licensing the power to fine companies for safety violations.
The bill would also fine operators for not reporting accidents in a timely fashion.
Under the guidelines set forth in the bill, operators could be hit with a five-thousand dollar fine for violations and up to 100-thousand dollars for not reporting accidents.
