The former teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student is trying to get her bond reduced. Angela Comer appeared in Monroe Circuit Court Judge, Eddie Lovelace's, courtroom Wednesday. Her attorney is arguing her bond is unreasonable under the Constitution and Judge Lovelace may give him a chance to have it reduced.

Bell is Comer's attorney. He says: "I believe she is entitled to a presumption of innocence and I want her case to be heard in the courtroom."

That's exactly the argument Johnny Bell used to convince Judge Eddie Lovelace that Angela Comer should have her bond reduced. Angela Comer's bond is now set at $87,500 cash. Bell wants to have it changed to something that he considers more reasonable.

Bell says: "Something that she has the ability to make. Not necessarily that she can make it. Something that's within her reach. A possibility of making that bond."

If she is able to make the bond, Bell believes home incarceration is a fair request. Comer is charged with two counts of third-degree sodomy, four counts of unlawful transaction with a minor, and one charge of custodial interference. She and the 14-year-old boy she is accused of having a sexual relationship with were found in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico in January. Despite that, Bell says Comer is not a flight risk and that she should not have to remain in jail.

Bell says: "Well due to the fact number one, that all the discovery has not been completed, all we have at this point, at this junction, is just one side of the story."

After listening to Bell's arguments, Monroe Circuit Judge Eddie Lovelace agreed to a bond hearing for February 28th, 1 p.m. Bell says until then new information regarding Comer's defense will not be presented.

Bell says: "I have not been able to come forward with anything that would mitigate the circumstances due to the fact that it would not be in the benefit of my client."

Judge Lovelace also set a date for her pre-trial conference. It will be on May 17. Stay connected to WBKO for more information on this story.
