A CONCEPT CALLED SMART METERING COULD BE COMING TO KENTUCKY. THE KENTUCKY PUBLIC SERVICE COMISSION IS ASKING UTILITY COMPANIES TO PROVIDE INFORMATION THAT COULD LEAD THE COMPANIES TO OFFERING TIME-BASED RATES TO CUSTOMERS.
UNDER THE PLAN...ENERGY RATES WOULD FLUCTUATE DEPENDING ON WHAT TIME YOU USE THE ENERGY. THERE WOULD BE PEAK AND OFF-PEAK HOURS...WITH THE OFF-PEAK USE COSTING A LITTLE LESS THAN ENERGY USED DURING THE BUSIEST TIMES OF THE DAY.
STATES HAVE UNTIL NEXT FEBURARY TO DECIDE WHETHER THEY WANT TO PARTICIPATE. SMART METERING IS INTEDED TO ENCOURAGE ENERGY CONSERVATION
