Farmers Diversify Farming Techniques

Last month, the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board approved more than $3.5 million for agricultural diversification projects. Much of that money is going to help the state's beef cattle industry. Kentucky ranks eighth among all states in numbers of beef cattle, and looks to improve its stance as a beef producing state.

Some of the diversification funds have been allocated to individual counties in Kentucky. One area farmer has received some funds from the program. He says he's been able to purchase new fencing, new corrals and a new gravel lane for his farm. Besides raising cattle, he still grows tobacco, but says tobacco is no longer his primary source of income.
