Less than a month ago, 31-year-old Lloyd Mabry was fatally struck while riding his motorcycle on Peters Creek Road in Austin, KY in Barren County.
Now, Jorge Rodriguez Pacheco, the man behind the wheel of the car, is sitting in a Florida jail cell.
Barren County Sheriff Chris Eaton is relieved to have caught their criminal.
"We're very elated. It was a top priority of the Sheriff's Department," said Eaton.
But it was a roundabout way of catching him. The trail started at the crime scene.
"There was a bumper of a vehicle at the scene of the accident that we matched that bumper between a '91 and '93 Honda," Eaton explained.
Through neighbor's photos, the car was found on property on Jeff Hicks Road and traced to two Hispanic men who lived in that area.
"We had received calls into the office that the Hispanic males were seen operating a Honda accord vehicle that Sunday with a spoiler on the back of it with a sunroof," says Eaton.
The investigation then took the sheriff's department to Macon County, Tennessee where the two suspects were believed to be working.
That's when they got a call that led them to Florida.
"They had told some people there in Macon County that they had family there and the family needed to them to come down and farm for them. They had taken them and dropped them off at a Mexican store there," Eaton notes.
After searching all day Thursday, 2 Barren County Sheriff's Deputies and the Palm Beach County Fugitive Task Force finally arrested Pacheco in his mobile home in South Bay, Florida on Friday.
"Jorge Rodriguez Pacheco, age 20, admitted to investigators that he was operating that vehicle that struck Mabry on June 22nd on Peters Creek Road.
Pacheco faces charges of reckless homicide, tampering with physical evidence, leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to report an accident.
He appears in a Florida courtroom next Tuesday to discuss "extradition" back to Kentucky. The arrest has Mabry's family and friends feeling a sense of relief.
"Obviously we are ecstatic that it finally look like there's gonna be justice and some end to this tragedy," said Austin-Tracy Assistant Fire Chief, Mike Brawn.
“I feel great. Not necessarily great, but I feel that maybe some justice will come of this," said an emotional Mary Ruth Mabry, Lloyd's mother.
There'll be a benefit for the family of Lloyd Mabry on July 26 at Austin-Tracy school.
