It was scheduled to be heard by the Senate Transportation Committee but never got its turn. Committee chairman Brett Guthrie said afterward he wanted to bring up the A-T-V bill at another meeting so a couple of members absent today could attend.

Guthrie said the delay did not reflect a lack of support for the measure.

He contends there's plenty of time to hear the bill and get it out of committee.

The version that passed the House by a comfortable margin would require youngsters under age 16 to wear helmets whenever riding A-T-Vs on private or public property.

Guthrie said the Senate committee will consider amending the bill to exempt youngsters from wearing helmets when doing farm chores aboard four-wheelers.
