After a long battle, the State House and Senate finally come to terms and pass a state budget.

The budget bill spends about $14 billion of general fund revenue through fiscal year 2004.

It makes fewer cuts in human services and in education.

Simpson County Interim Superintendent Ray Hammers says he is grateful that the legislators realized the importance of funding education.

The budget increases basic school funding by $14.7 million and provides for small pay raises for teachers and staff.
