STATE BUDGET NEGOTIATORS RESUMED TALKS TODAY...ON HOW TO DIVVY UP 18-BILLION DOLLARS OVER THE NEXT TWO YEARS.
HOUSE AND SENATE LAWMAKERS CONTINUE TO MEET BEHIND CLOSED DOORS IN FRANKFORT... TO HAMMER OUT A STATE BUDGET. LAWMAKERS SAY THEY'VE MADE SOME AGREEMENTS INCLUDING A DECISION ON A PROPOSED ARENA IN DOWNTOWN LOUISVILLE. HOUSE SPEAKER JODY RICHARDS SAYS THE LOCATION OF THE ARENA WILL BE LEFT UP TO THE LOUISVILLE METRO COUNCIL. LEGISLATORS HAVE ALSO RESOLVED PUBLIC UNIVERSITY FUNDING. SENATE PRESIDENT DAVID WILLIAMS SAYS THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY WILL GET ABOUT 15 MILLION DOLLARS TO HELP MAKE IT A TOP 20 RESEARCH INSTITUTION. OTHER SCHOOLS WILL GET ABOUT WHAT THE HOUSE RECOMMENDED IN ITS BUDGET THAT PASSED EARLIER THIS MONTH
