Traffic on a section of 31W in Bowling Green was slow moving this afternoon after a water main break caused traffic to move at a snail's pace.

31W's four lanes was reduced to two lanes.

The water was shut off from Captain D's to Chestnut Street.

Bowling Green Municipal Utilities workers began digging up the ground to locate the broken water main.

BGMU officials say a number of factors could have caused the break.

It could be anything from the ground shifting to the age of pipe.

These water and sewer pipe breaks are increasingly common throughout the US, often but not always due to inadequate maintenance and replacement programs.
