Franklin residents hoping to take a shower, brush their teeth, or make a pot of coffee may have been out of luck this morning.
Officials with Franklin Public Works say they found a broken PVC pipe by driving around and spotting a large amount of water in a field on the 1008 bypass. The pipe was fixed around noon and water pressure is believed to be back to normal after a day of minor challenges.
"Today, I'm doing a customer's house. She had called this morning and said they didn't have any water, so I said we'll cross that bridge when we get there," says cleaner Jackie Payne.
Jackie's scrubbing here, there, high, and low.
Today her work's taking a little extra elbow grease in a home where a bit more than a trickle of water would be more than welcome.
"The main problem I see with needing to have water is the toilet, being able to clean the toilet and then flush it," says Jackie. "Next would be the showers. When you spray them down, you need to rinse them off.
But why's there hardly enough water on tap to ring out a cloth?
"The pipe was sitting on a rock," explains City Manager for Franklin Hal Toomey. "It was basically a large piece of limestone and it put stress on the PVC pipe, caused a crack about six foot long in the pipe. What we basically had to do was saw it out and replace that section of the pipe."
But the work done here isn't much of a problem for Jackie.
"Water is something that you need, but you can work around it. You just need to be smart."
The way Jackie's using her head is by carting her own backup bucket of water all over Franklin.
"I'm what you call a MacGuyver!" Jackie says. "We're managing and water will be back on and things will be back to normal."
Toomey adds that Franklin will likely be under a boil water advisory for the next two days. That means that while the water is fine to use while cleaning and showering, it must be boiled before you drink it.
