Bowling Green's new taxi owner says you could see a taxi cab service running again as early as Monday, July 25th.
It's been almost a month since the city's been without taxis after Yellow Cab closed its doors.
Owner of Franklin Taxi in Simpson County, Dan Spears, purchased the taxi licenses August 19th.
Dan Spears has been working all ever since getting contracts in place, meeting with attorneys and making sure he's meeting guidelines to bring a new and improved taxi company to town.
Getting around town will soon be a little easier.
"We'll start up slowly with probably 10 to 15 cars and over the next few months we'll gear back up to the same number as whenever they (Yellow Cab) closed down," Spears explained.
On July 28th, Yellow Cab shut down, leaving many Bowling Green residents stranded.
"It's been rough for a lot of people around here. I do know that for sure," said Marie Crowley, a Bowling Green resident.
"It hurt Bowling Green a lot when we didn't have a cab service," added resident Loy Jaggers.
Now taxi owner Dan Spears is bringing his business here and with it--some improvements.
"I run fuel efficient vehicles like SCION XBs and diesel buses--things that can get the best economy I can ask for," Spears said.
Joe Boyd, the former Yellow Cab owner, cited several reasons for shutting down, but Spears says he'll look to private businesses to keep his own afloat.
"A lot of that is going to be on my shoulders, getting out knocking on doors and telling people how a taxi can be profitable for their businesses," Spears added.
And easing the frustration for those needing a ride.
"I'm glad Franklin decided to take it and go with it," Crowley said.
"It's going to help everybody," Jaggers added.
"I think they'll do a good job," resident Karen Combs said.
"We're going to get the job done. I'm not one of those guys behind a desk. I'm the one in the mix of things. I'll be there. A lot of people are going to see me in that taxi," Spears assured.
Dan Spears say he'll be working with former cab owner Joe Boyd to find out the needs of Bowling Green regarding a taxi cab service.
He also plans to see how many former drivers from Yellow Cab would like their jobs back.
