The sounds of Derby filled Kentucky Downs as everyone got their books together and set their bets.

"I'm loosing my money! Laughter... I'm trying to win some of these races but I'm not having too good of luck," said Robert Esteroy of Nashville.

Each having their own tricks to winning the Run for the Roses.

"I go by speed and the fastest horse," said Esteroy.

"I play the jockeys I don't play the book," said Mildred Borris of Nashville.

While others just left the deciding to someone else.

"I read this and go by what this man says and use my own judgment on whether he's right or wrong," said Milton Ferrell.

And to make sure he wins, He went ahead and got 15 tickets.

"Maybe I'll have some good luck and win some of them."

"And they are off!!!"

And so were the betters... standing... clapping... and praying... Just waiting for those final names.

"I won nothing out of all those tickets!," said Milton. "((Wife)) So he won't feel bad I'm gonna let him take my ticket and get the money for it!"

While others finally got their lucky strike.

"I won... finally!" said Esteroy.
